– What in the world was that. ♪ Here we are ♪ ♪ Born to kings ♪ ♪ We’re the princes of the universe ♪
– Today, we are reviewing Berres Brothers?
– I believe so.
– Coffee roasters Highlander Grogg. So…
– To let you know, Highlander was this awesome show about these immortal people and in the end there could be only one so just so you know where that theme song came from.
– Okay, so, it’s supposed to be indulgently sweet, richly enticing, it’s their top seller, and it’s an explosion of caramel, butterscotch, and hazelnut. I think I tried to combine butterscotch and hazelnut. Nubutterscotch.
– Oh yeah.
– So, uh, one of our friends he sent us a little taster’s pack or something of different Berres Brothers–
– Ben, shout out to Ben.
– Yeah, shout out Ben.
– He sent us four different Berres Brothers. This is one that we’ve tried. You can get it on their website. It’s 1.5 ounces for this it’s supposed to make an 8-10 cup pot. And they have others of course in that way to buy it and in 12 ounce pack and such.
– Right.
– So, we tried it once before. We’re gonna give it a go here. Not once before, just with this packet. We’re gonna give it a go here.
– I will say the smell of this is oh my gosh. Like, there should be an air freshener.
– There is. There is butterscotch for sure.
– Yeah, it’s a really good smell and oh my gosh when it’s brewing it’s really fantastic. But, okay, so first of all, we’re not big flavor coffee drinkers.
– Flavored coffees are not our thing.
– Yeah, it’s just not. I think one thing that I’ve noticed with a lot of flavored coffees is it just seems like there’s less coffee flavor. It’s not like full coffee flavor with the other flavor, it’s just like less coffee flavor plus another flavor. Does that make sense?
– Yeah. It does.
– That’s what I’m getting here. It’s sort of like it’s got a nice butterscotch flavor but there’s less coffee flavor. So if it had more coffee flavor with that same butterscotch level flavor then I would be happier.
– Right, yeah, otherwise, just like you said, it doesn’t have enough coffee flavor I don’t think. One thing we didn’t talk about was the price. The 1.5 ounce bag that you can get that does a pot is $1.69. But if you’re gonna get a 12 ounce bag of the ground coffee, it’s $10.99 which makes it $14.65 for a pound so that’s up there among the top.
– The premium.
– Among the top. The most expensive one we’ve done is $16 a pound, so this is $14.65.
– So, like, for the price I think no.
– Yeah.
– Like, I don’t know, for 14 I guess my expectations are like way up there. Like we were talking about.
– If it were more along the price of $10 or $11 a pound.
– Yeah.
– Something like that.
– Yeah, then oh, okay. And certainly the coffee itself it’s not offensive at all. I feel like anybody can pick this up and it would be, oh, okay, cool. But I don’t know, I just want more coffee flavor.
– Coffee flavor.
– Right, more coffee flavor. Not necessarily this doesn’t have any butterscotch because it does have butterscotch flavor but I just want more coffee flavor.
– What would you say donut rating wise? We have to try to consider that we don’t really do the flavored coffees.
– Yeah, but, I mean, yeah, I guess like a three? Would you put it at a three?
– Yeah, I would. I was kind of on the border but I think three is a fair ground for it.
– Border of less or more?
– I was thinking maybe a little under three but I think three is good. You could tell it’s good quality. It’s just a different flavor than what we like. Kayla’s having problems there.
– Well, another thing is if it were… Well, yeah, I would say three is what I would give it, yeah.
– Mm hmm.
– I kind of lost my train of thought.
– That’s all right. So, we’re gonna be reviewing a few other Berres Brothers coffees. I don’t think there all flavored coffees so look out for those. If you’ve had this Berres Brothers coffee, the Highlander Grogg, we know that my cousin and his wife have had it and they really like it.
– Oh, I remember my thought. Okay, my thought was, I lost it again.
– Maybe she’ll get it some other time.
– No, no, no, I remember. Because this is a sampler pack, I wondered if maybe like, if we had a bigger bag, then we could have tried more coffee in it. You know how sometimes we’re like, because there have been other coffees where we’ve realized if we do two tablespoons then we’re gonna enjoy it more. Just a thought I had.
– Yeah, I think that’s a good thought too because we’ve talked about adjusting the flavor. Again, if you’ve had this kind before let us know what you thought about it.
