[spoiler title=’Click here to read the transcript. ‘ style=’default’ collapse_link=’true’]- Hey, welcome to Coffee, Coffee, Coffee, your place for Average Joe coffee reviews. Today’s coffee beans have traveled from Kenya to Sweden, to the United States, to my mouth, and hers.
– So, today we’re reviewing Gevalia Coffee’s Special Reserve Single Origin Kenya Fine Ground Coffee.
– You forgot source.
– Oh, sorry, Single Origin Source Kenya Fine Ground Coffee.
– That’s a lot of words on the front of the package.
– It is, and it’s supposed to be a mild-to-medium, see this like, this second dot, so it promises to be, let’s see. It has winy undertones, lively acidity. On the front, it says delicate floral with deep berry undertones.
– Mm-hmm. So, a lot of things that the bag says.
– The berry underlings. Who are the berry underlings? Would be like the…
– Underlings.
– Huckleberry.
– Are you talking about undertones?
– You said under, undertones I was talking about underlings.
– The evil berries, they’re different.
– Okay, well, anyway.
– I was trying to think, which berries would be the evil ones? No, probably none.
– Anyway, okay, so, let’s talk about price.
– Uh-huh, it was a 10-ounce bag, and it was on sale, but typically it’s about $8.39 for the bag, for 10 ounce. So that takes it to 13 and a half dollars a pound, so that’s a fairly pricey cup of coffee.
– Yeah, pretty pricey coffee, yeah.
– Bag of coffee.
– Yeah, you always have to like look out for is it a 10-ounce bag, or a 12-ounce bag, ’cause it matters.
– But we got this one buy-one-get-one-free, so that makes it even better.
– Yeah, yeah.
– So let’s see what we think about the taste and flavor.
– The smell, especially of the grounds, were like really rich and chocolatey.
– Yeah, I thought so too. _ Yeah, even Ezra thought so.
– And this does smell like that a little bit, too.
– He’s our 10-year old. Eleven.
– He’s 11.
– He’s 11, yeah.
– He’s been 11 for like eight months.
– Anyway, I don’t know that I get berry. Do you get berry? I don’t.
– It seems like I’m getting some sort of…
– Like a dream of blueberry.
– Fruity underlaying But yeah, maybe it’s just because I read it on the bag, but…
– Yeah.
– I don’t know about berry. I don’t know what kind of berry they’re talking about.
– Yeah, now floral I could maybe get behind, because it’s a little bit floral, but, hmm. We did taste this completely black. Are you drinking yours with sugar?
– Now it has a little bit of sugar in it.
– Yeah, and I always take cream with mine, but we did try it completely black. And I would say it was pretty pleasant.
– Yeah.
– Just black. Like, I could drink that just black. I won’t, but I could.
– Right, but we do our reviews like ordinary Americans would drink coffee, and I think most Americans put some sugar or put some cream in their coffee, so–
– I think I looked that up. And like 35% drink it black, so I think that’s right. Anyway.
– My older brother is one that I know, and he gets mad if you drink it without putting anything in it
– Yeah, so, let’s see, so the rating, though. What would we say?
– ‘Cause it’s pretty expensive coffee.
– It’s pretty expensive, yeah.
– And that goes into, count, what am I saying?
– Take, we take it into account.
– Into consideration, yeah, oh, that’s the word, when we’re trying to come up with the donut rating, Because, you know, it matters.
– It does, yeah.
– So, typically it’s a pretty expensive, or on a higher end price.
– Three?
– Yeah.
– Yeah.
– I think so. So three donuts out of five, and then you guessed right. Like I’m the be-all and end-all on that. But it’s good coffee.
– It is, yeah.
– If you’re at the store and you see some Gevalia Kenya, pick it up.
– Yeah, especially if it’s on sale, grab some of that.
– Yeah, get some B-O-G-O going, all right.
– Yeah.
– But if you’ve tried any Gevalia or single source, or Kenya coffees, let us know in the comments below. We’d love to talk to you about which one you’ve tried. And if you’ve had this one, let us know especially, so we can kind of compare notes.
