- Hey, welcome to “Coffee, Coffee, Coffee;” your place for average Joe coffee reviews. Today’s coffee is smooth and mellow like Miles Davis.
– So, today we are reviewing Specially Selected fair trade German roasted mild ground coffee. What a mouth-full.
– Yeah. By the way, I want to change my intro. Smooth and mellow like David Hasseloff. ‘Cause it’s German.
– Hey.
– And he was in a band. He was huge in Germany
– Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Germans love David Hasselhoff.
– Yeah they do.
– As Norm Macdoland would say.
– Who doesn’t love David Hasselhoff?
– Saturday Night Live.
– What?
– Yeah when he was doing the news. Germans love David Hasselhoff.
– Right. Yeah. Okay. So, this is from Aldi. That… I guess that’s kind of like… Or at least one of their name brands is Specially Selected.
– Specially Selected.
– Because it is distributed by Aldi. It does say that somewhere on this bag.
– And today, we actually saw some ice cream that was from Aldi, and it said Specially Selected. So, it wasn’t just Specially Selected coffee… It’s just the…
– It was good ice cream.
– Brand of their thing.
– Yeah.
– Yeah. So, 100% arabica coffee. It’s supposed to be mellow and smooth. And it is imported from Germany, so it’s like a legit German roasted coffee. But now the actual beans; it doesn’t really say on here.
– I don’t know if they grow coffee beans in Germany.
– It just says “South America,” so…
– So, I guess not.
– No. Right. So, it is fair trade certified, which is cool.
– Right.
– The farmers get more money for their beans when it’s fair trade.
– Right.
– Is my understanding.
– Yeah, if it’s true or not, we never know, but that’s what it says on the back.
– Right. Right, like I really don’t know how rigorous the process is to be a fair trade certified or all the differences…
– You probably just have to pay somebody.
– Maybe. Yeah. Yeah.
– Who knows.
– But anyway. The question is: Is it good coffee? It is super cheap. We should talk about price.
– Yes. Super cheap,
– ‘Cause the bag is 17.3 ounces, I think.
– Yeah.
– 17.6 ounces.
– Yeah. Five hundred grams.
– So… I don’t speak grams.
– Yeah. Well, it’s over a pound.
– Yeah, it was five dollars for more than a pound, so… Super cheap.
– That is super cheap.
– Super-duper cheap.
– Alright. Let’s take a taste.
– My nose is itching.
– But… Yeah. So… This coffee has a beanyness, which I do not enjoy.
– Absotutely.
– And…
– Get it?
-My glasses are fogging up. Ow!
– Terrible.
– I’m having a horrible time.
– Maybe there’s something else in the coffee.
– Yeah. It just doesn’t have the flavor that I’m looking for.
– Right.
– It’s got that beanyness, and almost kind of a burnt flavor to me.
– Yeah.
– But its like nothing else is there. I want more flavor, and its just kind of bland otherwise. Slight beanyness, which is not my flavor.
– I’ll say the beanyness is kind of at the beginning of the drink though.
– Yeah.
– When I drink it, I taste the beany right away. And then it… Kind of goes away
– It kind of goes away.
– Yeah. Yeah, but still. Even at this price point, I just… I can’t really bring myself to be like, “Oh yeah, you should totally try that.”
– Yeah.
– Yeah.
– Because, Folder’s black silk was less expensive.
– Right. And it was…
– And it was pretty good. You can check out
– yeah. It was that review if you like
– enjoyable.
– Yeah.
– And it’s readily available.
– Right.
– You know, this coffee you can get at Aldi. Maybe online too, but it’s probably more expensive online.
– Yeah.
– But yeah. So, anyway. If you’ve had this coffee before, let us kn ow what you thought about it. Or if you get it after seeing this review, or you’re drinking it right now while you’re watching. It’s like a space-time continuum thing. That’s a good comment. Anyway, so let us know, you additional people, and we’d be happy to talk to you about it. So, that’s for joining us. And until next time…
– Keep grinding. What?
– [J.R.] Hey, thanks for watching our reviews. Please be sure to subscribe, and check out our other reviews here.
– Did you get it?
– No.
– ‘Cause I said it’s a space-time continuum, like they were drinking it as they were watching it. And then we were also cause it was a space-time continuum. We were there watching them type the comment, so I said…
– Oh. Do you know what space-time continuum means?
– No.
– Okay.
– Neither do I.
